Kasetsart University Welcomes Delegates from Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sabah, Malaysia

On November 29, 2023, Associate Professor Naroon Waramit, PhD, Dean of School of Integrated Science (SIS), Kasetsart University, and representatives of SIS and International Affairs Division, welcomed a group of lecturers and students from Faculty of Plantation and Agrotechnology, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Sabah, Malaysia, to the main campus of Kasetsart University.  Their visit to Kasetsart University was part of The International Outreach Program: Planters Academic Visit 2023 to Bangkok, Thailand, aiming to have interactive activities in academic and cultural exchange with partner universities.  Dean and representatives of SIS gave them a brief introduction about SIS, non-degree programs, and credit bank.  Then, the delegates visited Faculty of Agriculture in the afternoon to learn about its innovative research and laboratory classes.

 

The Faculty of Plantation and Agrotechnology (FPA), UiTM Sabah branch offers various programs including a Pre-diploma Agrotechnology, Diploma in Planting Industry Management, Diploma in Agricultural Entrepreneurship, and a Bachelor Degree (Hons) in Plantation Technology and Management.  The faculty focuses on student development such as plantation crops management, entrepreneurship in agriculture, integration of smart technology with crop and plantation management, food processing, livestock management, aquaculture, etc. Some of the activities managed by the students include hydroponic farming, aquaponic farming, livestock management, and stingless bee cultivation.  Students are also involved in innovation of various tools and equipment to improve agricultural management.


The International Outreach Program: Planters Academic Visit 2023 to Bangkok, Thailand is organized by the Faculty of Plantation and Agrotechnology to fulfill the syllabus requirement for several courses.  The courses involved are Agriculture Digital Marketing (AGB253), Agro-based Food Handling and Processing (AGB296), Introduction to Agricultural Technology (AGV118), Mechanization Estate Operation (AGR318) and Principle of Agricultural Marketing (AGR313). The visit intends to expose and broaden students’ knowledge and experience in agriculture, technology, and entrepreneurship.  Moreover, the visit is intended to give opportunities for them to gain a global perspective.
