The objective is to discuss the issue of establishing the International Fund for Agricultural Development for the Asia Pacific region, where Thailand was selected to be the country to establish the office and the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives nominated the Faculty of Agriculture at Kasetsart University as the place where such office is established because the location has convenient transportation and located in the same area as government agencies such as the Bank for Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives, the head office, as well as various offices and departments under the Ministry of Agriculture and Cooperatives.

In addition, the International Fund for Agricultural Development is a specialized organization of the United Nations specializing in agricultural finance. It was established in response to the food crisis that occurred in the early 1970s. Its objective was to assist member countries with agricultural development in eradicating poverty and hunger as well as for nutrition. Most of the assistance is in the form of low-interest loans and grants for academic studies, research, training, and preparation of agricultural development projects of member countries. In the past, Thailand used to receive assistance from IFAD, but now Thailand's cooperation and relationship with IFAD has decreased accordingly.
