On August 24, 2023, three
representatives of Gyeongsang National University (GNU), the Republic of Korea, namely Kim Hyun-wook, Vice Dean, Office of International and External Cooperation/Animal bioscience & Integrated biotechnology, and Associate
Professor, Department of Animal Applied Science, Kim Hoe-dong,
Manager, Office of International and External Cooperation, and Jung Min-kyeong, Administrator, Office of International and External
Cooperation visited Kasetsart University to have an academic discussion with
the university administrators and to promote the GNU Global Mobility Program as
well as Fall 2023 admission of international students. They had a fruitful discussion with Associate
Professor Dr. Chamaipak Maiklad, Assistant to the
President for International Affairs, and administrative members of Kasetsart
University, including Associate Professor Dr. Buncha
Chinnasri, Assistant to the President for Quality Development and Deputy
Director of Kasetsart University International College (KUIC), Professor Dr. Arinthip Thamchaipenet,
Associate Dean for Research and International Affairs, the Faculty of Science, Assistant
Professor Dr. Patamaporn Sripadungtham, Associate Dean for
International Affairs, the Faculty of Engineering and Associate Professor Dr. Weerachai Chaiworapuek, Head of the Department of Mechanical
Engineering, the Faculty of Engineering. Both parties agreed to initiate
student mobility programs enhancing students’ foreign
language, social and intercultural skills and experiences abroad. At present, each university has provided
scholarships for international students of all levels of study to participate
in short-term academic activities, such as internships,
exchange programs and summer school programs. Moreover, exchanges of faculty,
researchers and academic staff were of their mutual interests, that would lead
to other types of activities in the future, particularly joint research
projects or national key projects funded by the governments and wider public
sectors. They also
expressed their willingness to develop an MOU to show
intent of educational and research collaboration between Kasetsart University
and Gyeongsang National University.
Gyeongsang National University is a flagship national university in Gyeongnam, the
Republic of Korea.
In March 2021, two national universities, Gyeongsang University, founded
in 1948, and Gyeongnam National University of Science and Technology, founded in 1910, were merged to become
Gyeongsang National University.
The new Gyeongsang National University, officially launched in
2020, has five campuses, namely Gajwa, Chilam, Tongyeong, Changwon, and Naedong. GNU is composed of 17
colleges and 12 graduate schools in a wide range of academic fields, including humanities, social sciences, natural sciences,
medicine, arts, and marine sciences. By the Leiden Ranking 2021, GNU has been
ranked second among national flagship universities in top 10%
