KU welcomed and discussed with the delegation of the University of Exeter, United Kingdom

On 24 June 2024, at 10:00 a.m., in meeting room 10, 10th floor, the Golden Jubilee Administration and Information Center Building, Kasetsart University, Associate Professor Dr. Chamaipak Maiklad, Assistant to the President for International Affairs, along with Assistant Professor Dr. Korakit Choomgrant, Deputy Dean for International Affairs and Educational Development at the Faculty of Social Sciences; Dr. Cheewin Mallikamarl, Department of Law, Faculty of Social Sciences; Associate Professor Dr. Thamrongsak Svetalekth, Deputy Dean for Student Affairs Development, Faculty of Business Administration; Associate Professor Dr. Ratcha Chaichana, Vice Dean for International Affairs, Faculty of Environment; Miss Jittima Krissadanont, Faculty of Business Administration, Office of Secretary; and personnel of the International Affairs Division welcomed the official visit to Kasetsart University of Professor Richard Follett, Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement at the University of Exeter, Professor Li Li, Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Global Engagement; and Mr. Mark Elliot, Regional Head, Global Partnerships, University of Exeter.

 

On this occasion, Associate Professor Dr. Chamaipak Maiklad, Assistant to the President for International Affairs, welcomed the delegation and was pleased to support the opportunity for cooperation in education between the two universities. Then, the Assistant to the President for International Affairs at Kasetsart University led a video presentation introducing the university and mentioned that it is an honor and pleasure for Kasetsart University and the University of Exeter, United Kingdom, to collaborate in related academic and research activities, especially between the Faculty of Humanities, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Business Administration, and the Faculty of Environment at Kasetsart University with the three main faculties of the University of Exeter. In today's meeting, Kasetsart’s Vice Deans and representatives from related departments were invited to meet and discuss further cooperation and opportunities in areas of common interest.

 

Professor Follett conveyed his gratitude for the warm welcome and provided an overview of the University of Exeter. He highlighted the potential for expanding collaboration beyond the humanities to include a broader range of subjects and activities. He emphasized the purpose of the visit, which was to explore and develop academic cooperation with Kasetsart University, such as expanding cooperation in education, research, and exchange of cooperation between the University of Exeter and the Faculty of Humanities, the Faculty of Social Sciences, the Faculty of Business Administration, and the Faculty of Environment. These were discussed together today, and he sees an opportunity to expand academic cooperation between the two universities to cover a wider range of subjects and activities in the future, such as Biological Science and Technology courses, Medicine or Agro-Medicine, Engineering, Environment, and/or Circular Economy, etc. Both sides agreed on further exploration and will contact the coordinator to discuss cooperation with each other in the future.

 

The meeting exchanged information as mentioned above, such as discussions on initiating cooperation and various activities together, including student exchange programs, especially short-term courses (Summer School) with Credit Transfer for a period of 6–8 weeks, exchanging professors, research cooperation, scholarships, and the establishment of an academic cooperation agreement or MOUs at the university and faculty levels. Examples include beginning at the Department of Law, Faculty of Social Sciences, cooperating in teaching and learning on Research and Development (R&D), providing academic support in the field of Archeology, in which the University of Exeter has high expertise, etc. Professor Follett concluded that the University of Exeter is happy to support and offer cooperation in various fields mentioned above, including 1. Promoting cooperation in joint research 2. Summer School in business administration and others 3. International Collaboration Programs such as 3+1, and 4+1 programs in engineering, computers, law, communications, etc. 4. 1+1 graduate level program 5. Tuition fee reduction and opportunity for scholarships 6. Short-term exchange students/credit transfers between two universities 7. Preparation of an academic cooperation memorandum or MOU together.

 

In summary, the meeting exchanged information as mentioned above, such as discussions on creating cooperation and various activities together. Both sides are pleased with today’s meeting and can further develop academic cooperation between the two universities to cover a wider range of subjects and activities in the future, including the initiative to sign an academic cooperation agreement (MOU).

 

The University of Exeter was founded in 1955 and currently has approximately 30,000 international students from 150 countries around the world. The University of Exeter is a member of the Russell Group and is ranked in the top 1% of universities in the world. There are three campuses located in the southwest of England. The university offers bachelor’s degrees, master's (both coursework and research), and doctoral degrees. There are also online degree and leveling courses to choose from as well. Courses are offered in three faculties at this university: Faculty of Environment, Science and Economy; Faculty of Health and Life Sciences; and Faculty of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences.
