On 24 November
2023 at 1.00 p.m. in the IAD meeting room, 10th floor, the Golden Jubilee
Administration and Information Center Building, Kasetsart University, Associate
Professor Dr. Kampanat Pensupar, Vice President for International Affairs along
with Assistant Professor Dr. Pathamaporn Sripadungtham, Vice Dean for
International Affairs, Faculty of Engineering; Associate Professor Dr. Adichai
Pornpromin, Head of Department of Water Resources Engineering, Faculty of
Engineering and alumni of Nagoya University; representatives of Kasetsart University Business
Incubator Center (KU-BIC); Miss Prattana Thirakiettikun, Head of the
International Collaboration and Networking Section; and personnel of the
International Affairs Division welcomed the official visit to Kasetsart
University of Professor Hiroshi Imaizumi, Director of Nagoya University
Bangkok Office and Director of Nagoya University Global Campus in Singapore,
Japan.
On this occasion, Associate
Professor Dr. Kampanat Pensupar, Vice President for International Affairs welcomed
and provided broad information about Kasetsart University and mentioned that
Kasetsart University has cooperation with many Japanese universities and is
willing to have more academic activities with Nagoya University in the future.
Both
sides discussed the possibility of establishing joint academic activities
together. Then Professor Hiroshi Imaizumi, Director of Nagoya University
Bangkok Office and Director of Nagoya University Global Campus in Singapore,
Japan, informed the main purpose of the meeting with Kasetsart University
administrators was to 1. To discuss about the visit of
Nagoya University’s President and executive members to Kasetsart University
around October next year; 2. To discuss about future
collaborations, especially in the fields of engineering and agriculture; 3. To explore about Kasetsart University’s innovation projects
and business incubation; and 4. To meet with Nagoya
University alumni at Kasetsart University.
The
meeting exchanged the above information and explored more opportunities for
cooperation by emphasizing engineering and agricultural fields, such as Business
Incubation, Entrepreneurship, Startup, Innovation, and Technology Development
for Agricultural Sustainability, Global Market, and Social Impact, for example,
promotion of an agricultural innovation called ‘towing’ which is widespread in
Japan by considering joint cooperation with Kasetsart University researchers on
this innovation; supporting the exchange of students and researchers at the
bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels between Nagoya University and
Kasetsart University. In addition, there is mention of promoting the transfer
of knowledge between them, such as promoting startups between KU-BIC by learning
together with Nagoya University; exchange of faculty, researchers, exchange of students
on Double Degree (3+1) in agriculture, life science, veterinary medicine,
medicine, public health, education, and other fields in the future, including
short-term student exchanges such as one semester with credit transfer, etc. In
conclusion, both sides were satisfied with today's meeting and were able to
develop further academic cooperation with each other.
Nagoya
University was first founded in 1871 as a temporary hospital and medical
school. After undergoing several transitions, Nagoya University was established
as an imperial university in 1939 and became a national university in 1949. It
has grown to be one of the top research-intensive universities in Japan. The
University is comprised of 9 undergraduate schools, 14 graduate schools, 3 research
institutes, and 18 research centers covering liberal arts, humanities and
social sciences, natural sciences, and applied sciences. All schools are passionately
committed to in‐depth research and education. Nagoya
University has a population of approximately 17,000 students. 10% of these are
international students from 80 countries.
The Bangkok
Office is a hub for academic activities in Thailand and other ASEAN countries.
Examples include the Program to Foster a New Generation of Leaders for the
Development of the ASEAN Region (Campus ASEAN); the Women Leaders Program to
Promote Well‐being in Asia; the Program for Fostering
Leaders in Asia (PhD Professional), and the Program for Bioenergy Research (NU
Center for Innovation for Personalized and Diverse Society, Green Mobility
Collaborative Research Center). Through such initiatives, the office seeks to
deepen academic cooperation with Thai partner universities through student
exchange; staff and faculty exchange; promoting joint research; and communicating
information about Nagoya University. Partner institutions in Thailand are Kasetsart
University, Chulalongkorn University, Chulabhorn Research Institute / Chulabhorn
Graduate Institute, Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi, and Bangkok
Hospital.
