KU welcomes delegation from Central Bangka Regency, Indonesia

  On 26 November 2019, at 10.00 a.m., at meeting room 201 on the 2nd floor of the Vachiranusorn Building, Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University, Bangkhen Campus, Assistant Professor Dr. Sudsaisin KAEWRUENG, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Faculty of Agriculture; along with Associate Professor Dr. Alisara MENAKANIT, Head of Department Horticulture; Assistant Professor Dr. Atsalek RATTANAWANNEE, Department of Entomology; Dr. Chalathon CHOOCHAROEN, Deputy Head of Department of Agricultural Extension and Communication; and Dr. Anusron CHUEASAMAT, Department of Farm Mechanics, Faculty of Agriculture; welcomed 17 delegates from the Government of Bangka Regency, Indonesia, led by Dr. Ir. H. IBNU SALEH, MM, Regent of Central Bangka, on the occasion of visiting Kasetsart University.

  Assistant Professor Dr. Sudsaisin KAEWRUENG, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Faculty of Agriculture, warmly welcomed and introduced the background with a video presentation on the university and provided information about all campuses and departments of the Faculty of Agriculture, including KU research stations in Thailand and various programs offered at Faculty of Agriculture such as the ASEAN International Mobility for Students (AIMS) program; the Double Degree programs available to many Asian countries such as Malaysia, Japan, and Indonesia.

  After that, Associate Professor Dr. Alisara MENAKANIT, Head of Department Horticulture and Dr. Chalathon CHOOCHAROEN, Deputy Head of Department of Agricultural Extension and Communication, jointly answer questions about the various programs of Faculty of Agriculture as well as other questions that delegates from the Government of Bangka Regency, Indonesia are interested, such as how to operate and coordinate between Kasetsart University and local government agencies in each province, how to transfer knowledge from the university to Thai farmers, cultivation method and research in Thailand especially mango, avocado and date palm, comparing between organic farming and chemical farming management, and etc.

  The purpose of this visit is to discuss the possibility of establishing academic cooperation between the two institutions in the near future especially in a comparative study in agriculture and fishery innovation and development; and knowing general education system in Thailand with an emphasis on agriculture such as food and horticultural crops, plantation crops especially cultivation of palm dates and fisheries management. The delegates also showed their interests in visiting the research stations of Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Fisheries.

  After that, at 13.00 pm., the delegates from the Government of Bangka Regency, Indonesia, paid a visit to Faculty of Fisheries at Kasetsart University. Assistant Professor Dr. Methee KAEWNERN, Associate Dean for Administration, Faculty of Fisheries; along with Assistant Professor Dr. Wanwimol KLAYPRADIT, Associate Dean for International Affairs, Assistant Professor Dr. Yoawapha WAIPRIB, deputy head of Department of Fisheries Products; Assistant Professor Dr. Idsariya WUDTISIN, Deputy Head of Department of Aquaculture; and related faculty members; welcomed the delegates from the Government of Bangka Regency, Indonesia. The administrators of faculty of fisheries warmly welcomed and introduced the background with a video presentation and provided information about Faculty of Fisheries as well as answered questions about all courses offered and answered the questions from the delegates. The Government of Bangka Regency, Indonesia is interested in various topics of ocean marine food innovation. For example, the processing of marine products such as sea bass, crab, shellfish; fish breeder exchanges, how to catch marine animals such as shrimp, mollusk, crabs and fish in the Thai ocean by means of shallow water nets comparing with Indonesia which has an island landscape, and etc.

  From the meeting both Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Fisheries, the meetings discussed and exchanged common practice methods and processes at Kasetsart University to improve and promote organizational development to increase knowledge and understanding about agricultural development in each country. The Government of Bangka Regency, Indonesia expects that this visit to Kasetsart University will be a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge with a good learning experience and comparison of agriculture, fisheries, curriculum, research, and comparative data between Faculty of Agriculture and Faculty of Fisheries at Kasetsart University and the Government of Bangka Regency, Indonesia. Later, the delegates from Indonesia, paid a visit to Kasetsart University Hall of History, Three Musketeers’ Kaset Monument and a campus visit before departing with impressions.
