KU welcomes academic staff from Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia

  On 2 October 2019, at 10.00 a.m., at meeting room 201 on the 2nd floor of the Vachiranusorn Building, Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University, Bangkhen Campus, Assistant Professor Dr. Donludee JAISUIT, Associate Dean for International Relations, Faculty of Agriculture; along with Assistant Professor Dr. Shermarl WONGCHAOCHANT, Department of Horticulture; Dr. Chalathon CHOOCHAROEN, Department of Agricultural Extension and Communication; and Dr. Tiyakhon CHATNAPARAT, Department of Plant Pathology, Faculty of Agriculture; welcomed 21 academic staff from Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia, led by Dr. Jang Kung Hando MALYO, M.Ec, Department of Agriculture Socio-Economics, on the occasion of visiting Kasetsart University.

  Assistant Professor Dr. Donludee JAISUIT, Associate Dean for International Relations, Faculty of Agriculture, warmly welcomed and introduced the background with a video presentation on the university and provided information about all campuses and research stations of KU in Thailand such as National Research Centre of Millet and Corn or Suwan Farm. After that, Dr. Chalathon CHOOCHAROEN, Department of Agricultural Extension and Communication, presented the faculty’s background including all courses offered by Faculty of Agriculture, and a special lecture on Agricultural Tourism. Then, two representatives from Faculty of Agriculture at Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia gave special lectures on Chilli Farming and the Impact of Landscape Integrated Pest Management Implementation on Productivity, Pest Attack and Income of Rice Farming; Case Study in Java, Indonesia.

  The purpose of this visit is to discuss the possibility of establishing academic cooperation between the two universities in the near future at the faculty level especially in Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Extension and Communication, including other cooperation programs such as the AIMS Program, Double Degree Program, co-organizing an international seminar, internships, short-term and long-term student exchange programs, faculty and personnel exchange, information about scholarship opportunities, research cooperation, and etc.

  The meeting discussed and exchanged common practice methods and processes at Kasetsart University to improve and promote organizational development. The academic personnel from Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia, is interested in exchanging knowledge in Agricultural Economics and Agricultural Extension and Communication; to increase knowledge and understanding about agricultural development in each country. Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia expects that this visit to Kasetsart University will be a valuable opportunity to exchange knowledge with a good learning experience and comparing agriculture curriculums, courses, research and information between Faculty of Agriculture at Kasetsart University and Faculty of Agriculture at Universities Gadjah Mada (UGM). Later, academic staff from Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Gadjah Mada, Indonesia, paid a visit to the laboratories at Faculty of Agriculture, Kasetsart University and a campus visit.

  The Department of Agricultural Socio-economics belongs to Faculty of Agriculture Universitas Gadjah Mada Indonesia, consists of two bachelor study programs namely 1) Agricultural economics and agribusiness and 2) Agricultural Extension and Communication. The study program of Agricultural economics and agribusiness accredited by AUN-QA (the ASEAN quality assurance network in higher education). The lecturers of Agricultural economics and agribusiness are 3 professors and 12 lecturers. Meanwhile, study program of Agricultural Extension and Communication has one professor and 10 lecturers. Every year, students from both of two study programs join AIMS to study at Kasetsart University for one year.
