KU welcomes academics delegation from Germany

  On 19 September 2019, at 10.00 a.m., at meeting room 9 on the 2nd floor of the Golden Jubilee Administration and Information Center Building at Kasetsart University, Assistant Professor Dr. Putchong UTHAYOPAS, Vice President for Information Technology along with the university administrators including Associate Professor Dr. Thanya KIATIWAT, Vice President for Sriracha Campus; Associate Professor Dr. Chamaipak TAYJASANANT, Acting Assistant to the President; Associate Professor Dr. Chouw INPRASIT, Dean of Faculty of Engineering Kamphaeng Saen Campus; Associate Professor Dr. Arinthip THAMCHAIPENET, Deputy Dean of Research and International Affairs, Faculty of Science; Assistant Professor Dr. Prapinwadee SIRISUPLUXNA, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Faculty of Economics; Assistant Professor Dr. Watsatree DITEEYONT, Lecturer, Department of Educational Technology, Faculty of Education;  Assistant Professor Dr. Anamai DAMNET, Dean of Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science Kamphaeng Sean Campus; Assistant Professor Dr. Warapa MAHAKARNCHANAKUL, Director Kasetsart University Research and Development Institute (KURDI); and Miss Araya BIJAPHALA, Director of International Affairs Division; welcomed 4 academics delegation from Germany namely Dr.-Ing. Arno KÜHN, Head of Department Strategic Product and Business Management, Fraunhofer Institute for Mechatronic Systems Design (IEM); M.Sc. Martin RABE, Scientific Assistant, Fraunhofer Institute for Mechatronic Systems Design (IEM); Professor Dr. Holger KARL, Department of Computer Science, Paderborn University; and Baroness Sansanee von ENZBERG Dr. h.c. (KU Thailand), Thai-German Academic Network; on the occasion of visiting to Kasetsart University to discuss academic and research cooperation; paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation; be invited to be a Keynote Speaker and participated in the KU – Sriracha International Forum 2019 : Strengthening Collaboration on Education, Research and Innovation toward Thailand 4.0 which was held between 15 – 22 September 2019 at Kasetsart University Sriracha Campus.

  The purpose of the visit was to discuss the project cooperative activities for joint research in various academic fields with Kasetsart University especially in Engineering, Innovation Management and Systems Engineering for Digital Transformation in the Manufacturing Industry, Data Science, Economics and Business Administration. In summary, KU has proposed the cooperation issues with 4 academics delegation from Germany, as follows.

  • Faculty of Science has proposed on cooperation for the development of medical data science which the Faculty of Science is continually working on the data with Phramongkutklao College of Medicine, a teaching hospital for Phramongkutklao Hospital. The academic team from Germany is pleased to create cooperation because of similar work related to data science as well as other suggestions such as Data Science in Engineering, Biomedical and etc. Therefore, the Faculty of Science is interested in building cooperation and discuss further in details; including exchange and curriculum development, research collaboration and the exchange of students/ faculty and researchers.
  • Faculty of Economics has proposed on cooperation for the development of data science which the Department of Agricultural and Resource Economics has offered in relation to the analysis of economic data on agriculture, food, resources and environment in order to reflect the development levels of the agricultural modernization. Therefore, the Faculty of Economics is interested in building cooperation and discuss further in details; especially the cooperation in student exchange.
  • Faculty of Education has proposed on cooperation for the development of data science in Educational Technology with an emphasis on Learning Behavior such as Elderly Behavior of Internet Use. Therefore, the Faculty of Education is interested in building cooperation and discuss further in details; especially the cooperation in student exchange.
  • Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science Kamphaeng Sean Campus has proposed on cooperation for the development of new program in the Department of Service Industry and Language Innovation (DSIL); especially to produce Master of Arts and Doctor of philosophy, as well as develop new courses in the social sciences curriculum together.

  At the end of the meeting, Associate Professor Dr. Thanya KIATIWAT, Vice President for Sriracha Campus concluded a proposal for cooperation between Kasetsart University with academics delegation from Germany which is the exchange of students and faculty, researchers, and the institutions’ accreditation for KU students. Baroness Sansanee von ENZBERG Dr. h.c., Thai-German Academic Network Coordinator, expects that today’s discussion will drive the collaborative activity projects in a variety of academic studies which will help create more beneficial cooperation between German and Thai universities in the near future; especially in the initiative to combine all branches of agricultural science into one science, namely Life Science for this 21st century. The conclusion of this conference is that Education, Research and Innovation are essential in sharing experiences and ideas and bridging the gap between academic and industry together.

  Later in the afternoon, representatives from Germany attended a meeting with Dr. Suvit MAESINCEE, Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation (TISTR), to provide information about the project and academic cooperation between Thailand – Germany and proposed to establish the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at the ministry level between the two countries for the benefit of education, research and innovation development together in the future. Further, Dr. Suvit MAESINCEE, also exchanged information and expressed the government’s policy views that led to the various forms of development such as such as the Innovation Zone of the Eastern Economic Corridor (EECI) or Smart City Project etc.
