A Courtesy Visit of the National University of Laos, Lao PDR

  On 13 August 2019, at 09.00 a.m., at meeting room 9 on the 2nd floor of the Golden Jubilee Administration and Information Center Building at Kasetsart University, Dr. Chongrak WACHRINRAT, Acting President of Kasetsart University; along with Assistant Professor Dr. Buncha CHINNASRI, Acting Assistant to the President; Assistant Professor Dr. Supachat SUKHAROMANA, Dean of Faculty of Economics at Sriracha; Assistant Professor Dr. Aphichart RODCHANAROWAN, Assistant Dean for International Affairs, Faculty of Engineering; Assistant Professor Dr. Donludee JAISUIT, Vice Dean for International Relations, Faculty of Agriculture; Dr. Passakorn ONGARJ, Dean of Faculty of Public Health, Chalermprakiat Sakon Nakorn Campus; Associate Professor Dr. Kanita TUNGKANANURUK, Associate Dean for Academic Affairs, Faculty of Environment; Dr. Surin ONPROM, Associate Dean for International Relations, Faculty of Forestry; Dr. Udomluk KOOLSRIROJ, Deputy Dean for International Affairs, Faculty of Education; Dr. Intira BUMRUNGSALEE, Assistant Dean for International Affairs, Faculty of Humanities; Dr. Jiraporn PRADABWONG, Assistant Dean, Faculty of Engineering at Sriracha Campus; Miss Nichapat Phusit, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science, Kamphaeng Saen Campus; Miss Araya BIJAPHALA, Director of International Affairs Division; Mr. Thossaphon SRATONGYOD, Office of Secretary, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science at Kamphaeng Saen Campus; and Miss Churairat SUKSAHWAT, Office of Secretary, Faculty of Liberal Arts and Science at Kamphaeng Saen Campus; welcomed 5 delegates from the National University of Laos (NUOL), Lao PDR, led by Professor Dr. Somsy GNOPHANXAY, President; along with the administrators and professors consisting of Associate Professor Dr. Somchanh BOUNPHAMY, Vice President; Associate Professor Dr. Sengdeuane WAYAKONE, Director of International Relations; Dr. Kaisone PHENGSOPHA, Vice Director of Post Graduate Office; and Ms. Phouvanh SIMMANOVONG, Secretary of SSHEP-D-PIU, Ministry of Education and Sports, on the occasion of visiting Kasetsart University.

  According to the previous visit of KU Administrators to National University of Laos on 2 March 2018, led by Associate Professor Dr. Viroch IMPITHUKSA, 28th Chairman of Kasetsart University Council and Associate Professor Dr. Wilaisak KINGKHAM, Acting Vice President for Chalermphrakiat Sakon Nakhon Province Campus along with university administrators and lecturers; to strengthen the academic collaboration between two universities. Since Kasetsart University and the National University of Laos have mutual cooperation and have a good relationship with each other for a long time.

  This courtesy visit of NUOL administrators aims to discuss academic cooperation between Kasetsart University and the National University of Laos; and to sign the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) for matching the scholarship program of strengthening higher education project. The meeting also discussed in various issues such as matching scholarships, cooperation in wood technology, natural resource management and education management, as well as academic and research cooperation. In addition, the meeting discussed various issues on the continuation of the ADB or the Asian Development Bank Phase 2 project to improve the educational progress of faculty in four public Universities of Lao PDR at all degree levels by providing matching funds with oversea universities and partner networks such as Kasetsart University, agreeing on the financial assistance, reducing expenses or providing some tuition fees and etc. Kasetsart University is willing to provide fully support on this program. Currently, there are 3 PhD students from Lao National University who will study at the Faculty of Forestry and the Faculty of Environment. The meeting concluded that the International Affairs Division will continue to coordinate further operations on this program such as preparing students for English language exams.

  After that, the discussion covers about future cooperation with various faculties, such as ongoing scholarship support and direct admission every year of the Faculty of Public Health at Chalermphrakiat Sakon Nakhon Campus. Therefore KU request that the National University of Laos to help publicize the information to their students. The undergraduate level will offer 30 scholarships and the master’s degree will offer 2 scholarships for each program of the 3 programs, namely, Engineering, MBA and Public Health, total of 8 scholarships.

  Meanwhile the Faculty of Education which has activities with the National University of Laos along with universities in Japan continuously, is pleased to continue to support various activities, such as teaching courses at both the master’s and doctoral levels. Science teaching course will be offered in English program. However, if it is in Thai, there is available in all programs. Other proposal about the exchange of visiting scholar is also possible. For the Faculty of Agriculture has emphasized the matter of International Capacity Building to promote internationalization. The universities should promote students since undergraduate level continuing to the master’s and doctoral degrees, especially the Tropical Agriculture program, other issues including cooperation in transferring credits, double degree, personnel exchanges, and etc. The Faculty of Humanities proposes the increasing number of foreign students by organizing the TA (Teaching Assistant) grant in the field of linguistics by selected the person as a TA lecturer can waive the education fee, especially for universities that have MOU with Kasetsart University.
